Afnan 9PM vs Bvlgari Le Gemme Tygar: AED 131 Beats AED 1,594 (Round 23)

On By AlHimyan / 0 comments

Round 23 of the AlHimyan Perfume Battle puts the most lopsided price gap of the tournament so far on the table. On one side, a champion that costs less than a tank of petrol. On the other, a Bvlgari Le Gemme flagship that costs more than twelve of it.

Afnan 9PM arrives with seven straight wins, tying the all-time tournament record. Bvlgari Le Gemme Tygar arrives as one of the highest-rated fragrances we have ever put in the ring. Only one of them walks out as champion.

The Contenders

Champion: Afnan 9PM Eau de Parfum, 100 ml

Afnan 9PM for Men Eau de Parfum 100ml bottle, sweet oriental fragrance available in UAE at AlHimyan

Released in 2020, 9PM is the fragrance that turned Afnan from a value label into a household name in the Gulf. It opens on apple and cinnamon over bergamot and lavender, then settles into a thick vanilla and tonka base. It is unapologetically sweet, built for evenings, and it projects far harder than its price suggests.

Challenger: Bvlgari Le Gemme Tygar Eau de Parfum

Tygar was composed by Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud in 2016 and takes its name and its golden-brown bottle from the tiger's eye gemstone. It is the bestseller of the Le Gemme masculine line: a bright grapefruit opening that collapses into a dense, mineral ambroxan and vetiver core. Where 9PM shouts, Tygar hums.

Note Pyramids Side by Side

Tier Afnan 9PM Bvlgari Le Gemme Tygar
Top Apple, Cinnamon, Wild Lavender, Bergamot Grapefruit
Heart Orange Blossom, Lily of the Valley Ginger, Ambrette
Base Vanilla, Tonka Bean, Amber, Patchouli Ambroxan, Musk, Vetiver, Patchouli

These are two completely different arguments about what a masculine fragrance should be. 9PM is a gourmand: edible, warm, close to dessert. Tygar is a mineral woody: citrus over stone, dry rather than sweet. The only shared note is patchouli, and it behaves differently in each, sweetened into the vanilla in 9PM and left earthy under the vetiver in Tygar.

The Scorecard

Our standard formula weighs Fragrantica community score, Parfumo community score, longevity, sillage and value. For this round the Fragrantica numeric scores could not be retrieved, so the remaining four criteria were re-weighted proportionally and the round was scored on verified Parfumo data only. Every number below is real and sourced. Nothing was estimated.

Criterion Weight Afnan 9PM Bvlgari Tygar
Parfumo community rating 38.5% 7.9 / 10 (2,333 votes) 8.5 / 10 (957 votes)
Longevity 23.1% 8.2 / 10 7.7 / 10
Sillage 15.4% 8.0 / 10 7.5 / 10
Value per millilitre 23.1% 9.5 / 10 4.0 / 10
Final score 100% 8.36 7.13

Where each one won

Tygar takes the quality vote. An 8.5 on Parfumo is a genuinely high score, and it is well clear of 9PM's 7.9. Voters consistently describe Tygar as smelling expensive, refined and unmistakably luxurious. That is not marketing, that is 957 people agreeing.

9PM takes performance. Parfumo voters rate 9PM at 8.2 for longevity against Tygar's 7.7, and 8.0 for sillage against 7.5. The cheaper bottle lasts longer and travels further. That is unusual, and it is the main reason 9PM has held the crown for two months.

Value is where the round is decided. Here is the arithmetic:

Afnan 9PM Bvlgari Tygar
Price AED 131 / 100 ml AED 1,594 / 100 ml
AED 1,772 / 125 ml
Cost per millilitre AED 1.31 AED 15.94 or AED 14.18
Multiple Baseline About 11 times more per millilitre

Tygar has to be roughly eleven times better to break even on value, and on the community's own numbers it is not. It rates 0.6 points higher on quality while performing half a point lower on both longevity and sillage.

The Verdict

Afnan 9PM wins Round 23 with a final score of 8.36 against 7.13. That is an eighth consecutive victory, and it breaks the tournament record of seven previously shared by Amouage Interlude Man and Parfums de Marly Layton. 9PM is now the longest-reigning champion in the history of the AlHimyan Perfume Battle.

To be clear about what this result means: Tygar is the better-composed fragrance. If the only question were which one smells more refined, Tygar wins and it is not especially close. But this tournament scores value as a real criterion, because for most people buying a bottle it is a real criterion. At an eleven-fold price difference, the more expensive bottle needs to justify itself, and Tygar's own community scores say it performs slightly worse on the wearer than the bottle costing AED 131.

Which One Should You Buy?

Buy Afnan 9PM if you want a sweet, warm, high-projection evening fragrance that will draw compliments in a Dubai winter and cost you almost nothing to wear daily. It is the safest first bottle we sell in this style, and at AED 131 there is very little to lose.

Buy Bvlgari Le Gemme Tygar if you already own the crowd-pleasers and want something quieter, drier and more distinctive. Tygar is a signature-scent purchase for someone who wants to smell expensive rather than loud. It rewards close range, not a crowded room. The 125 ml bottle is also the better buy of the two sizes at AED 14.18 per millilitre against AED 15.94.

The honest answer for most readers is that these two are not really competitors. One is a AED 131 sweet gourmand and the other is a AED 1,594 mineral woody. If you can afford Tygar, buy Tygar and also buy 9PM, because 9PM costs eight percent of what Tygar costs and does a completely different job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Afnan 9PM good for hot UAE weather?

It is better in cooler months and at night. The vanilla, tonka and cinnamon base gets heavy in high humidity. Apply lightly in summer, two sprays rather than five, and save it for evenings after sunset.

How long does Bvlgari Tygar last?

Parfumo voters rate its longevity at 7.7 out of 10, which puts it in the six to eight hour range on most skin. The grapefruit top fades quickly within the first thirty minutes, after which the ambroxan and vetiver core does the work and stays close to the skin.

Is Tygar unisex?

Bvlgari markets the Eau de Parfum as masculine, but the composition is citrus, ginger and mineral woods with no traditionally gendered floral or sweet anchor, so it wears comfortably on anyone. The Extrait de Parfum version is marketed as unisex outright.

What is the difference between 9PM and 9PM Elixir?

The Elixir is a parfum-strength interpretation with a richer, less fruity opening and a denser base. The original 9PM is fresher on top thanks to the apple and bergamot. Both are available at AlHimyan.

Do you deliver these across the UAE?

Yes. Both fragrances ship across the UAE with cash on delivery available, free delivery on orders over AED 300, and a seven day return window. Stock on Tygar is limited to a small number of bottles per size.
