Afnan 9PM arrives on a fifteen-round winning streak, already the longest run in tournament history by more than double the previous record. Amouage Love Tuberose arrives as one of the most admired white florals in Omani perfumery, composed by Nathalie Lorson, and priced at twelve times more per millilitre. Champion: Afnan 9PM Eau de Parfum for Men, 100 ml

Released in 2015, 9PM is the fragrance that turned Afnan from a value label into a name people ask for by heart. It opens on apple and cinnamon over bergamot and Provencal lavender, drifts through orange blossom and lily of the valley, and lands in vanilla, tonka bean, patchouli and amber. Love Tuberose belongs to Amouage's Secret Garden line and was composed by Nathalie Lorson, one of the few perfumers trusted with a full-strength tuberose that does not apologise for itself. Tuberose, gardenia and jasmine open the composition at full volume. Cream and vanilla move underneath and round the sharp green edge that raw tuberose usually carries. Sandalwood and Virginia cedar hold the base steady for hours. It is a white floral built the expensive way: high concentration of naturals, no fruity shortcut, no gourmand crutch.

Afnan 9PM is roughly twelve times cheaper per millilitre. That is the widest value gap since Round 24, and it is decisive: value carries 23.08 percent of the score this round, and a 2.7 point swing in that category is more than the challenger's entire scent-score advantage can repay.

This is the closest thing to a moral victory a challenger has managed in a while. Love Tuberose is the better-regarded composition on pure scent, 8.0 against 7.9, and it owns the bottle score outright at 8.7 against 6.9. Those are not small things. But the formula rewards what a fragrance does on skin and what it costs to wear, and on both counts 9PM holds. Longevity and sillage go to the champion by a tenth each, and value goes to it by 2.7 points.

The honest reading is that these two are not really competing for the same buyer. Love Tuberose is a full-strength white floral from a house that does not cut corners, and its 6.4 value score is not a complaint about quality, it is a statement about price. A 436-rating sample is also much thinner than 9PM's 2,349, so the challenger's numbers carry more uncertainty. We are disclosing that rather than burying it.

Buy Amouage Love Tuberose if tuberose is your flower and you have been let down by thin, watery versions of it. This is the opposite of that.
