Afnan 9 PM arrives as the longest-reigning champion this tournament has ever had — ten straight defences, a record it took from Amouage Interlude Man and Parfums de Marly Layton, who both fell on their eighth. Today it faces Attar Collection Crystal Love for Him, a Dubai-based house that trades in opulent, gem-styled bottles and gets shelf space in every serious Gulf perfumery.

Composed by Luz Vaquero, Crystal Love for Him is the masculine half of Attar Collection's Crystal Love pair. It opens bright and Mediterranean — bergamot, Moroccan orange, general citrus — then does something genuinely unusual in the heart, laying an ice-cream accord next to cinnamon and rose before settling into ambergris, leather and patchouli.

One caveat worth stating plainly: Crystal Love for Him carries 22 scent ratings against 9 PM's 2,339. That is a thin sample. These two are less alike than the shared cinnamon and patchouli suggest. 9 PM is a gourmand-leaning sweet oriental that announces itself from across a room. Crystal Love for Him is a citrus-leather composition with a strange, likeable dessert accord in the middle — closer to a smart-casual daytime scent than a night-out projector.

Why the Champion Held

Crystal Love for Him lost every scored category, but the margins tell the real story. On scent it was only 0.4 behind — respectable, and arguably noise at 22 votes. The gap that actually decided this was value: 9.1 against 7.3, worth nearly a full point of the final score on its own.

That is the pattern this tournament keeps returning to. At AED 1.31 per ml, 9 PM is not competing on refinement. It is competing on the question every buyer actually asks at the till — how much scent, how loud, for how long, for how much. Buy Afnan 9 PM if you want maximum presence for minimum spend, you like sweet apple-cinnamon-vanilla orientals, and you are dressing for evenings, weddings, majlis gatherings and cooler months. It is loud. Two sprays is a decision, not a suggestion.

Buy Crystal Love for Him if you want something almost nobody around you will be wearing, you prefer citrus and leather to sugar, and you need a fragrance that behaves in an office or a daytime meeting. The ice-cream-and-rose heart is the reason to own it — there is nothing else quite like it at this price.

Honestly, they are different enough that owning both is defensible. Together they cost less than one bottle from most of the niche houses we have run through this tournament.
