Battistoni is the Roman tailoring house on Via Condotti, dressing Rome since 1946. Marte arrived in 1986: the painter Renato Guttuso cut the profile of Mars into the glass, and Pierre Dinand shaped the flacon around it. The scent opens green and bracing on basil, artemisia, Tunisian rosemary, bergamot and petitgrain, then turns unexpectedly soft, with Grasse jasmine and Madagascan clove warmed by Chinese coriander and pimento. It dries down on Atlas cedar, Bourbon vetiver and Brazilian rosewood.
